Kingsville / Annual high school scavenger hunt

THE TOWN
IS THE STORY.

The kids have a list.
Everyone else has concerns.

Back roads, old stories and a coffee counter that hears about all of it. Explore the Kingsville of Wednesdays Without Josh, inspired by the places where KC grew up.

Illustrated Kingsville story map. The Citgo sits near the top center-left with Still Open Video across the road, the crematorium at the upper right and the Nike missile base at middle-left. Huber’s Farm and Huber’s garage/podcast studio sit at the lower left near Gunpowder Falls. Ask Me About My Crabs sits east of Kingsville near Jerusalem Road. All About that Brim and Stick With Me stand side by side southeast of the village. The expanded lower shopping district adds What Needs Laserin? custom engraved gifts, Ace Hardware and Ace Bandages directly next door to Ace Hardware. Harford Road, Sunshine Avenue and Belair Road connect the wider town.
Drawn from KC’s annotated reference. Relative locations are simplified for the story map; not to scale. Expanded with a new shopping district. Use the zoom buttons or open the full-size illustration for a closer look.
01
The crossroads / Harford Road & Sunshine Avenue on the story map

The Citgo.

Josh’s daily coffee stop and Kingsville’s unofficial information desk. Bobbert Roberts works the counter. Gordy owns the place. Everyone comes through eventually. The Wild Bill’s beef jerky sometimes leaves without paying.

02
The name that stuck / Upper-right corner of the map

“The crematorium.”

The abandoned factory the kids thought was a crematorium. It was really a rendering plant. Their parties grow until somebody calls the cops. By morning, The Citgo has heard several conflicting accounts of who was there.

03
Cold War leftovers / Middle-left woods

The Nike missile base.

Abandoned missile silos, teenage curiosity and stories that get better with every retelling. Everyone claims they went farther than everyone else. Bobbert has heard that version, too.

04
Before the microphones / Lower-left fields

Huber’s Farm.

The real produce farm where the group worked in their youth. It was eventually sold, but the memories keep coming back—especially October nights by the tree line, gathered around a fire waiting to chase off pumpkin thieves.

The farm was sold. The stories weren’t. →
05
The destination / Beside Gunpowder Falls on the story map

Huber’s garage.
The podcast studio.

A nicely finished space with microphones, old friends and an empty seat. Huber, Chris “The Night Ranger” and KC are ready to record. Josh is somewhere else on this map. Probably.

06
Still renting / Across the street from The Citgo

Still Open Video.

A video rental store that has outlasted every prediction of its closure. In the window: Dobbert Roberts starring in Just What the Doctor Ordered, right beside a Heavy Breathers Anonymous flyer.

07
Kingsville seafood / Near Jerusalem Road on the story map

Ask Me About My Crabs.

Kingsville’s seafood store. Crabs, fresh seafood and one very memorable name. Find the little shop with the crab sign just east of the village, near Jerusalem Road.

Another local counter. Another perfectly reasonable place for Josh to stop when he should be somewhere else.

08
Kingsville haberdashery / Next door to Stick With Me

All About that Brim.

A haberdashery specializing in wide-brim hats. Find the storefront with the oversized hat sign southeast of Kingsville village, right beside the walking-stick shop.

For anyone who feels their entrance could use a little more shade.

09
Walking sticks & hiking staffs / Next door to All About that Brim

Stick With Me.

Kingsville’s walking-stick store. Wooden walking sticks, hiking staffs and a name that makes a persuasive case for staying together.

Browse the hats next door, then find something to lean on.

10
Custom gifts / The expanded Kingsville shopping district

What Needs Laserin?

Custom laser engraved gifts, made personal. A workshop full of wooden keepsakes, engraved gifts and things that suddenly need someone’s name on them.

Josh came in for one gift. Personalizing it may take a little longer than he told the group chat.

11
The hardware store / Directly next door to Ace Bandages

Ace Hardware.

The actual Ace Hardware store in the Kingsville story world. Tools, hardware and the supplies for whatever project someone has decided to start this week.

Buy what you need for the job. The shop next door handles what happens when the job goes badly.

12
The bandage store / Directly next door to Ace Hardware

Ace Bandages.

A store devoted to bandages. Adhesive strips, wraps and a business location that practically explains itself.

The hardware store is directly next door. Jorge may find this arrangement particularly useful.

Coming in the next couple of weeks / Story date to be announced

Clipboard season
is coming.

Kingsville’s students love the annual scavenger hunt. The rest of town is preparing to answer “no, we don’t have one of those.” Ted and Ed’s hunt takes an unexpected turn in Episode 2.
